The purpose of this hands-on 2-week course is to set up an email account using the free web-based email programme Gmail, and explore the extra services this email programme offers.
The only prerequisites are a basic knowledge of using a mouse or touch pad and access to a computer with a
broadband connection.
Week 1 will cover:
  • How to set up an email account
  • Where to find tools and adjust programme settings to suit individual taste
  • Ways to send, receive and forward emails
  • Filing emails and creating new folders
  • Sending and opening an attachment including pictures in emails
Week 2 will cover:
  • Saving pictures to your computer
  • Using an address book and transferring addresses from another email programme
  • Setting up a calendar
  • Saving files, pictures, etc to the web
  • Exploring other apps that go with a gmail account

​​What to do with all of those family photos, or holiday snaps, here is a solution. Using Snapfish NZ on-line, this 2-session course will show you the basics of what you need to know to create your own photo album on-line. It will show you the following:
  1. How to login to the website
  2. Selecting the size/shape of book, soft/hard cover, background etc
  3. Uploading photos from your computer or other device
  4. Formatting pages
  5. Dragging photos on to pages
  6. Editing photos
  7. Inserting text
  8. Completing the book and ordering

Snapfish NZ do have helpful tutorials available on line and you will be given the details of these.

To get more from the course, it would be useful if you could bring some of your own photos on a USB stick.

Description This practical hands-on to iPad Part 1 is conducted over 2 sessions and is aimed at the beginners and people new to the iPad. It will teach you how to set up
and get to know the iPad and the iOS that drives it.

  1. Understand that there are various type of tablets and operating systems
  2. Know that the Apple iOS is the Operating System for iPad. iPhone iPad Mini and iPod
  3. Know the various button controls on an iPad and how to operate them
  4. Know what the “Home” screen is and what are the “in-built” and Store apps are
Session 2 
  1. Know how to turn an iPad off and on and how to get important information about the iPad.
  2. Know how to screen capture the information for safe keeping
  3. Know that an Apple ID is required for getting apps from the Apple Store

This hands-on course intends to enable students to develop a good working knowledge of a specific operating systems and common utilities and applications – the Apple iOS and iPad and continues from the topics introduced in iPad Part 1.

Allan Chee will conduct the continuation of the practical hands-on course of getting to know the iPad and the iOS that drives it, and continues on from Parts 1 and 2.

Please note that Parts 1 and 2 are not a prerequisite for attending this Part 3 class as long as you can “see” that the topics are ones that can expand your knowledge on the use of your iPad/iPhone .

Saving and Storing your Digital Photos Course

This is a practical lesson on saving and storing your digital photos or other digital files. This will involve a short explanation on cloud storage and how it works, and a quick explanation on other storage mediums such as hard-drives/USB sticks. We will then go through the steps on how to actually setup a cloud account, remove your photos or file from your device and actually store them on the cloud or on other mediums such as external hard-drives or USB sticks.

Safe Driving Refresher Course

Age Concern Wellington is running another refresher workshop for senior drivers.

This workshop uses material prepared by NZ Transport Agency, including a DVD of local driving situations, which covers Give Way rules as well as some useful guidelines on driving safely. 

Numbers are restricted to 15 to give participants the opportunity to raise queries, and to take part in discussion. Participants are also given a very useful booklet which covers much of the workshop material and includes information on licence renewal.

​Tea, coffee and a scone will be available.

This course is a follow up to our TradeMe workshop and will give you hands-on practice using TradeMe. We will show you how to create a tradeMe logon, search TradeMe listings, make a bid on an item or list your own item on TradeMe to sell it.

If you have a small item you want to sell, bring it to the class along with your camera.

If you don't already have a TradeMe Logon, we will help you set it up, but to activate your account you will need to access your email from a smartphone or desktop computer so please have your email password.
